Now more than ever there are diets, theories, programs and ads for exercise equipment bombarding us every day.
But we — that’s a collective term for all Americans, not just those fit gay jocks and jockettes — continue to grow fatter and fatter every year. Obesity is a major problem.
The factors that play into gaining and losing weight make for a long list, including your level of activity, cultural habits, diet, genetics and more.
One thing I have heard since the beginning of my training days, and still hear today, is that if you eat a good breakfast each morning it will jump start your metabolism. There is a strong and negative correlation between meal size early in the morning and those late at night. That means people who eat meals with high energy content in the morning were eating less total calories the rest of the day, and vice versa. The people who didn’t eat much in the morning actually ended up eating more throughout the day.
So does eating breakfast jump start your metabolism? The answer is actually no. The reason that eating breakfast can be a factor in a structured weight loss program is because you will tend to eat less calories over the course of a day.
