The Women’s Outdoor Group is putting the final touches on its First Annual Best Ball Tournament, set for Sept. 20

The event benefits WON, Pets Are Loving Support and the Feminist Women’s Health Center. The cost is $75 per person or $300 for a team of four and participants can register online.

“The purpose is to go out and have a good time, and raise some money for WON so we can keep our programs running,” says Patricia Doub, a board member for the Women’s Outdoor Network.

Organizers hope more than 30 teams consisting of four players each enter the Best Ball tournament, where each golfer plays his or her ball throughout the hole and the “best ball” counts as the team score. Foursomes – composed of all women, all men, or a mixed team – can enter the tournament for $340, and individuals can register for $85 and be assigned to a team.

“Literally anybody can come out and play in this tournament because it’s a best ball tourney,” Doub says. “It’s just going to be a fun, community event.”

The group also has its annual picnic on Saturday. The 5th Annual Summer Picnic and Gear Swap Event is set for 3 p.m. at W.D. Thompson Park in Decatur.
