Why can’t all gays have a mom like this? [video]

If your mom is as articulate and passionate about LGBT equality as Alice Hoagland, then give her a hug. If not, listen to the mother of slain rugby jock Mark Bingham counter Carson Daly’s spat of anti-gay humor with reason, intelligence and compassion. It’ll make you tear up.

“The Voice” host used his radio show last week to crack a joke stereotyping gays as too weak and effeminate to take down the crazed JetBlue pilot who became unhinged mid flight. Hoagland, in an interview Friday with CNN, reacted with the thoughtfulness and compassion you’d hope all mothers of a gay son could muster and reminded him that hey, her son was among the passengers who fought hijackers on Unite Airlines Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001.

And then she told Daly to go see a gay rugby game.
