Not only do they want a “WOW Wedding” from 11 Alive, they want it as a statement about marriage equality, too. After submitting their story to the contest, Mallette and Ferricci (photo) were selected as one of the five finalists to receive a dream wedding package with a swank set of prizes from wedding vendors and an all-inclusive wedding for up to 50 guests. They are the only gay couple in the contest, which is gay-inclusive in its sponsorships, too, with support in part from the Atlanta-based Equally Wed magazine among others. “Not only will this help us win the contest, I think it would be a huge win for the gay community here in Atlanta," Malette tells Project Q Atlanta. The couple makes an impassioned case about equality and acceptance in their self-description on the contest site.

A WOW Wedding has always been a dream of ours, but financially out of reach. This opportunity would give us the chance to finally bring our families together and share in the love we've felt for each other these past 11 years. We understand we may be a long shot, but we think Atlanta is progressive enough to see a loving, committed couple break down some barriers. I hope you let our love for each other outshine any prejudice. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Now all they need is your online vote here, with voting and its progress at the top right of the page. Whoever gets the most clicks by 5 p.m. on Feb. 29 wins, and you can vote more than once. The winning couple will be announced on March 18. Get to it. UPDATE: Campaigners for one couple, not the couple themselves mar competition with gay slurs.
