imageDrag sensation Varla Jean Merman made an appearance in Atlanta on Wednesday to promote her upcoming show.

“Shut Up, Sweet Charlotte” opens Jan. 22 at the 14th Street Playhouse. Merman used her Dec. 10 appearance at Blake’s to give fans a little taste of what’s to come. She gained some national exposure during the last season of Bravo’s “Project Runway” when she was a member of the winning team in the drag challenge.

“Shut Up” is a parody of the original novel and camp classic film “Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte,” which starred Bette Davis and Olivia De Havilland and hit screens in 1964. Merman, who is Jeffery Roberson when not in heels, plays Miriam in the stage production.
