Vandals deface gay Atlanta store with anti-gay graffiti

Vandals struck lesbian-owned Charis Books late Thursday, painting graffiti on the exterior of the building with “eat mor dick,” “fuck dikes,” “creeps” and an image of a penis.

The incident took place after the retail outlet hosted an event with Atlanta Pride spotlighting local authors.

At Charis we firmly believe that bigots target you when you are doing something right. We had such a fabulous explosion of LGBTQ literary talent in the house last night that the homoantagonists had to mark our building with slurs. The show goes on tomorrow night, more prideful than ever.

A passerby noticed men painting the walls of the bookstore about 11:15 p.m. and called Atlanta police, according to the GA Voice.

Charis Books mocked the vandals in Facebook posts on Friday:

When will the homophobes learn how to correctly spell their slurs?

Instructions from a local homophobe

Charis is asking supporters to show up Friday afternoon with paint supplies to cover the graffiti and lay groundwork for a community mural. They are also seeking donations to Charis Circle, the store's non-profit programming arm.
