A week after video of a bizarre attack went public, Atlanta police arrested two people accused of assaulting a couple outside gay-owned businesses in Midtown.
Police arrested Dorian Darnell Boyd and Natasha Boyd for their alleged role in the Aug. 2 incident captured on video by Julio Rocha, a gay stylist at gay-owned Helmet. The video shows Boyd striking Darren Kohn with his cane after he confronted Natasha Boyd for parking her Jaguar on Piedmont Avenue and blocking them from leaving a parking space.
The scuffle unfolded outside Helmet and Pet Set, where Natasha Boyd was retrieving her dog. The video shows Natasha Boyd arguing with Kohn as she attempts to recover her keys, all the while clutching the small dog. Dorian Boyd comes to her aid, swiping Kohn's cane from him and then attacking him. Boyd also struck Kohn's girlfriend, Ummi Gunturk. Kohn and Gunturk suffered visible injuries.
The video also depicts Dorian Boyd threatening Rocha.
Police investigators later identified the assailants and arrested them on Aug. 15. They did not say how the pair is related. Dorian Boyd, 39, remains in the Fulton County Jail on charges of robbery, aggravated battery, battery and two counts of aggravated assault. Natasha Boyd, 44, was charged with aggravated battery, robbery and battery. She was released on $15,000 bond.
“I began recording as a deterrent and was yelling at the man and letting him repeatedly know that I was recording this event in hopes that he would use common sense and stop the assault. Instead he continued his assault before fleeing the scene,” Rocha told Project Q Atlanta.
