Tituss Burgess to gay Georgia: Vote ‘terrorists’ out of office

Gay actor and Georgia native Tituss Burgess threw some shade at the Peach State during an appearance on “The Late Show,” urging LGBT folks to turn down Beyoncé, step out of the bars and help vote anti-gay lawmakers out of office.

The riff from the UGA graduate came Thursday as “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert egged Burgess on, convincing him to give a mock commencement speech to the school where he earned a bachelor's in music. Burgess took up the challenge, put on a cap and gown and took aim at Georgia lawmakers who passed an anti-gay “religious freedom” bill that sparked a national backlash.

Dear graduates of 20 whatever year it is when I come down there, you just graduated from a shady school that has the name of a shady state. That tried to pass a shady law. I think you need to come out of the bars and go and vote in these primaries and these elections and get these terrorists out of office because you are literally — you're inactivity, your inability to protect human beings is killing us. So, put Beyoncé on pause as devastating as that would be and march into these primaries and help saver our countries. That is what I would say.

Fortunately, Gov. Nathan Deal vetoed the legislation and LGBT Atlanta thanked him for it during a rally on Tuesday.

Georgia's primaries are set for May 24 and several LGBT candidates are on the ballot.
