LOVE POTION: It’s the last night to screen the film “Were the World Mine” at Midtown Art Cinema. The movie centers on a gay teen who discovers a love potion after being cast as Puck in his high school play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Southern Voice recently talked with director Tom Gustafson. Show times include 4:35 p.m., 7:25 p.m. and 10:05 p.m.

WISE TALK: Nashville-based author Tim Wise appears at Charis Books & More to read from his new book, “Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist Reflections From an Angry White Male.” The event begins at 7:30 p.m.

SHUT UP: Drag icon Varla Jean Merman is in Atlanta for a brief run of “Shut Up, Sweet Charlotte” at the 14th Street Playhouse. The show continues Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Show time is 8 p.m. and tickets cost $45. Several of the shows benefit local gay groups. Read more in a Project Q Atlanta interview with Merman. Tonight’s show benefits the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.

COCKTAIL SIP: The Thursday Night Cocktail Sip in Gay Atlanta continues its early start to the weekend at Trois in Midtown. The event starts at 9:30 p.m.
