Think in the abstract with artist Patrick Hanson

imageWith two upcoming shows, local artist Patrick Hanson (photo) is a busy man. His latest exhibits–one Saturday and one next Friday, Oct. 16–show off his talent for oil and highly textural mixed media.

Hanson’s dreamy works are to be displayed Saturday at an unusual venue, the chiropractic and healthy living facility, Midtown Life Studio. The Friday exhibit, dubbed “Shadow Gambling,” takes place at the high-end gallery CherryLion Sculpture Studio.

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Hanson is the son of a U.S. military father and a German mother. He studied Fine Art at Auburn University, graduating in 2000 with a concentration in sculpture.

image“My diverse upbringing and exposure to many parts of the world has greatly affected me in endeavors in a greater understanding of life, and is often reflected in my art,” Hanson says on his website.

“I try to engage the viewer in a journey of exploration of the work,” he adds. “I have always been analytical in many facets of my life; it is a point I feel many people do not come to, unless provoked by a outside source.

The early interest in sculpture influences Hanson’s current-day paintings (bottom photo). Heavy texture and a keen sense of space give life to a sometimes sterile medium. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Hanson is sure to please many an eye for form, composition, visual movement and color.

The most current exhibits of his work aren’t just a flash in the pan either. Hanson has been winning awards since art school. Check out his long resume of exhibits, and get lost in a gallery of his works.
