SHUT UP: Drag icon Varla Jean Merman is in Atlanta for a brief run of “Shut Up, Sweet Charlotte” at the 14th Street Playhouse. The show runs Jan. 22-25 and Jan. 28-31. RUGBY: The Atlanta Bucks Rugby Football Club kicks off its eight-game schedule on Saturday with a match against Georgia Tech. Can we say, “college jocks?” Yes we can. Match time is 2:30 p.m. at Coan Middle School on Hosea Williams Drive in Kirkwood.
ROCK FOR EQUALITY: Lesbian singers Halcyon and Renee Mixon headline the “Stand for Equality” concert on Saturday, a benefit for Georgia Equality. Tickets are $20 for the 8 p.m. event at Wild Mustang. The concert is part of the non-profit’s “Campaign for a Fair Majority,” which also encourages gay Georgians to create personalized web pages to help advocate for equality.
PAGEANT: Out on Film launches its monthly film screening on Monday with “Pageant,” the documentary of 50 men competing for the title of “MIss Gay America.’ A mini-pageant with celebrity judges follows the screening. The event’s set for 7:30 p.m. at Plaza Theatre on Ponce.
