Gay Atlanta’s best New Year’s Weekend events

The holigays come to a close, but not before a full night for New Year’s Eve and its surrounding weekend events, whether you’re up for a blowout or looking to knock back a few with besties.

Friday, Dec. 30

It’s Not New Year’s Eve (top photo). The best thing about this Friday is leaving Saturday to the amateurs and partying with the pros @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. Stick around for the Midnight Mass George Michael Tribute, 12 midnight.

“The Santaland Diaries” Closing Weekend. The 18th year of Harold Leaver as David Sedaris’ snarky department store elf, kicks off @ Horizon Theatre, 8 p.m. Runs through Dec. 31.

The Other Show. Come to the unique weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast and special guests that always pack a surprise @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m

Pump. When one word is all you need to kick off the weekend with a man-to-man dance party, you betta Pump, 10 p.m.

Deadly Vixens puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Crush Friday turns up the volume on its weekly gay Latin party with stage shows and dancing into the wee hours @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Resident DJs Scott and Mikey take you deep into the night with $5 Fridays @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

Foreplay Afterhours keeps you dancing late. Really late @ Tokyo Valentino, 1 a.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, Dec. 31

Infamous: Chicago Style (middle photo). DJ Joe Gauthreaux puts your flapper-Gatsby-gangster look to a beat @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for New Year's Fantasy Girls, this week on the main stage, 9 p.m.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during regularly scheduled shenanigans, 9 p.m.

Naked New Year. Atlanta’s gay strip club offers a completely open bar and of course all the all-nude men you can eyeball @ Swinging Richards, Doors open 6 p.m.

New Year’s Masquerade. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

New Year’s Eve Countdown. The gay jocks and athletic supporters ring out the old and in the new @ Woofs, 7 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Genesis White Party. Heretic, in association with Scruff and benefitting Ready 4 Hope, offers this New Year's Eve white-attire tradition with DJ Roland Belmares. Angelica D'Paige provides the countdown to a champagne toast @ Heretic, 9 p.m.

Pennies From Heaven werqs NYE in the ATL with a cash drop, party favors, midnight champagne and special guests @ Blake’s, 9 p.m.

New Year’s Eve Ball. DJ Rob Reum and all the guys kick a champagne toast and balloon drop for cash and prizes at midnight @ Ten, 9 p.m.

NYE Blowout. Turn up the volume on the celebration and blow your ever-loving mind with glamazons, party favors and champagne at midnight @ Burkhart's, 9 p.m.

BJs Bacchanalia. The go-go boys on the bar want to ring in the New Year with you @ BJ Roosters, 9 p.m.

Regina Simms New Year. The Faces show gets a lift from the holigay @ Friends on Ponce, 9 p.m.

Happy F#ckin’ New Year Everybody. Party with the East Atlanta cool kids,including Mary-oke @ Mary’s, 10 p.m.

Balls Drop Ball. Drop yours low into this leather-levi night with DJ Pat Scott @ Eagle, 10 p.m.

Bizarre Wonderland. The Wussy kids and queens go ask ‘Alice’ for a New Queers Eve theme and welcome your Wonderland-inspired costumes. Open bar and midnight champagne @ 115 MLK Jr. Dr., 10 p.m. – 4 a.m.

DJ Lydia Prim brings the tribal beats to keep your weekend fun going that much longer @ Tokyo Valentino, 1 a.m. – 5 a.m.

DJ Alex Cohen All Nighter. Bars close, but this place doesn’t. You never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.


Sunday, Jan. 1

Falcons v. Saints (bottom photo). The post-season is in full swing, and these bitches are ready to go @ Woofs, 4 p.m.

New Year’s Day Morning Party. Stay up past sunup with GA Boy Productions and DJ Kevin Durard, 6:30 a.m. – 12 noon.

New Year's Day Drag Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Midtown Rouge. First it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast including Raquell Lorde (bottom photo) @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

Sunday Funday wraps your weekend just the way you like it: with all your gays plus DJs Rob Reum and Robert Ansley @ Ten Atlanta, 5 p.m. – midnight.

CherryBomb. Wild Cherry Sucret returns to the weekly stage for “something hip and different,” including surprises each week @ Jungle, 8 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet and her left-of-center queens @ Burkhart’s, 9:30 p.m.
