The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

The dog days aren’t over, but you can master them with Atlanta’s LGBT events. Inside or outside, cranked up or chilled out, the Gay Agenda calendar has a cure for what ails you.

Friday, July 31

“Boulevard” (top photo). In his final role, Robin Williams plays a closeted gay man whose life changes in unexpected ways after recklessly picking up a young male hustler @ Midtown Art Cinema, all week.

Happy Hour for Taylor Bennett. The Georgia House candidate out to do right by his gay mom pitches his campaign and raises funds with drinks @ Steel, 6 p.m. He has a lot of LGBT inclusive ideas for Georgia.

“Evita.” The quintessential diva musical returns to the stage with a local production @ Serenbe Playhouse, 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 16.

Essential Play Festival. Two new plays by Georgia writers run in repertory. “The Old Ship of Zion” follows an African-American church struggling in changing times, including one member who realizes he’s gay @ Essential Theatre, 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 23.

“Rent.” The queer-inclusive rock musical of a generation returns with a local reimagining helmed by director Freddie Ashley @ Actor’s Express, 8 p.m. Runs extended through Aug. 22.

Boys Room. One two, you know what to do. Three, four come on through the door @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. 

The Other Show. The most unique weekly drag cabaret in town with a cast and special guests who keep you guessing @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

Dylan Michael & The Family. The local gay singer and his groovy band turn alternative rock on its ear with special guests the Steady Common @ Tin Roof, 10 p.m.

Pump pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this week with DJ Neon the Glowgobear @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Deadly Vixens drag show puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus DJ Mike Pope’s Second Level @ Blake’s, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Friday Night Dance Party. Another weekly way to kick off your weekend just hit 10th Street. See what you can get into @ G’s, 10 p.m.

Chaparral Night turns up the volume on its weekly gay Latin party with stage shows and dancing into the wee hours @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, Aug. 1

DJ Oren Nizri (middle photo). The legend returns and gives it all to gay Atlanta fans @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for the Fantasy Girls show, 9 p.m.

‘Wild’ Silent Date Auction & Beer Bust. Hotlanta Softball teams the Wild Ones and the Wild host the final fundraiser of the season. Bid on dates, buy a bottomless beer, down a Jell-O shooter, buy a raffle ticket, and have fun @ Hideaway, 6 p.m.

Amber Taylor. The frontwoman of The Sexual Side Effects band rocks the house with guest bands Eqo and Millenial @ Smith’s Olde Bar, 9 p.m.

Hotlanta Squares Midsummer Dance. Atlanta’s LGBT square dancers welcome a guest caller for several rounds of fun @ City of Light, 7 p.m.

Steff Mahan. The lesbian crooner returns to the metro to woo her local fans @ Red Clay Music Foundry, Duluth, 8 p.m.

Country All Night. Scoot your boots with the line-dancing, two-stepping gays @ Heretic, 8 p.m.

Loser #Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during Gurlfrandz: Cuntry Queens, 10 p.m.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

DJ Marc J. Cubs. The local hottie beats down your Saturday with the Talons JocksNBalls Night @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests. DJ and video beats plus more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

DJ Chad Jack All Nighter. moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.


Sunday, Aug. 2

First Sunday Disco Fever. DJ Tommy and the nearly naked boys of BJs recall the disco era with you in your best costume for prizes @ BJ Roosters, 9 p.m. These guys know how to throw a party (bottom photo). Like, blowouts. Especially when costumes are involved.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Sunday Funday. DJs Rob Reum and Robert Ansley give you the inside-outside weekend closing party that you so deeply desire @ Ten Atlanta, 5 p.m. – midnight.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes. Those local camp crazies throw down their weekly show for tips against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta  @ Hideaway, 8 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet, her left-of-center queens, and DJ King Atlas rock this weekly drag show and dance party @ Burkhart’s, 9 p.m.
