The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

A week before Christmas, and all through the gayborhood, not a creature was stirring, not even… Wait. These LGBT events, shows, bars and parties are totally stirring to send you into weekend mode as quickly as humanly possible.

Friday, Dec. 19

XXX-Mess Party (top photo). Get a good gay-ing before family time next week with this event featuring Dirty St. Nick for portraits, DJ 5-Hour Boner for beats and Santa’s Little Faeries for drinks in the Boozy Cougar @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

“A Soulful Christmas.” Stepp Stewart’s acclaimed play hits the stage on LGBT Night of its run. Meak Productions and History of Black Gay America are in the house, and a Q&A with the cast and afterparty follow @ Sanford Performing Arts & Community Center, 6 p.m.

“Awaken.” The lastest exhbit at this gay-owned gallery with tony receptions opens the work of three artists @ Kai Lin Art, 7:30 p.m.

“The Santaland Diaries.” The annual stage shuffle through the mind and matters of writer David Sedaris’ gay department store elf. Harold Leaver returns to the lead role for the 16th year @ Horizon Theater, 8 p.m. Runs through Dec. 31.

The Other Show: Holiday Edition serves the weekly cast and special guests who make up the most unique drag cabaret in town. She’s so unusual @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

Pump pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this week with DJ Sean Mac manning the tables and pumping the beats @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Ladies Lounge gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale Christmas Show puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Chaparral Nights amps up a weekly gay Latin night with stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Men’s Night lets you in on the show and specials that get all the OTP gays rockin @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m. Get there before the bar closes permanently.


Saturday, Dec. 20

Gear Night with DJ Joe Gauthreaux. NYC’s sexy spin doctor returns to wow the crowd (middle photo), and the crowd wows itself in leather, uniform, rubber or other gear @ Heretic, 10 p.m. He killed it last time he was in Atlanta. And the time before that.

Twisted Toyland Fetish Marketplace. Get your last minute gift list and immediate personal needs filled in this memorable shopping experience @ Jungle, 12 noon – 6 p.m.

It’s a Hard Millie Birthday Christmas. Millicent Pete turns 112 years old, and you needed a daydrunk anyway. Host Amanda Topp and guest performers like Sybil Libation spoil Christmas, in a good way @ Mary’s, 3 p.m.

Atlanta SantaCon Bar Crawl. The annual gathering of Santa hats, beards and full costumes descends on the season. This year’s romp benefits Lost N Found Youth @ Little 5 Points venues and streets. Starts @ Front Page News, 7 p.m.

Atlanta Freedom Bands “Holiday Tales.” The concert band of this local LGBT band-geek conglomerate performs its holiday show for your entertainment @ North Decatur Presbyterian, 8 p.m. You can also participate in the group’s Endow-athon.

Armorettes Follies: How the Vivian Stole Christmas. The cast gives its monthly cabaret a holiday twist with Vivian Valium in a Grinchy, green-wigged titular role @ Heretic, 8 p.m.

BJs Boys Ho Ho Ho-liday Hat Party. You love holiday hat contests, you love seXXXy Santa, and you love sexy strippers. Luckily for you, there’s always a party @ BJ Roosters, 10 p.m.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. You know what’s up. Get your Christmas karaoke on @ Oscar’s, 10 p.m. 

Hardcore Holiday with DJ Karlito. The local beats guru turns up the volume on gay Atlanta’s favorite dance party. Forget about Nice. Naughty is much more fun. Kinkwear encouraged @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Ruby’s Redd Light District: Holiday Assault, 9 p.m.

Naughty & Nice Holiday Party. The ladies get moving with Brent Star & Friends rocking a special show to jazz up an already kickin’ lesbian dance party with DJ Liz Owen @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. Get there early for Julie Osbourne’s It’s That Time of the Month comedy show, 8 p.m.

Babylon Saturday: X Mas Party with Sexy Santa. The weekly event gets turned up a notch with a beefy stud in red for your holiday pics, donations collected for Lost N Found Youth, DJ Canvas, and tons of guys partying @ 10th & Piedmont, 11 p.m.

Synergy Christmas Show turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Genre, a cast of premiere queens and special guests. DJ and video beats plus more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Divas Cabaret works some looks with Destiny Brooks on the mic for all the OTP gays @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m.

DJ Twisted Dee All Nighter moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.


Sunday, Dec. 21

The Armorettes: Trailer Park Christmas & Ugly Sweater Contest. The camp crazies throw down their weekly show for tips against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta, this week with the annual scariness that is the holiday show (bottom photo) plus a contest for your X-mess sweaters @ Hideaway, 8 p.m. It’s a sight to see.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:15 doors, 1:30 p.m. show.

Sunday Funday. It's two parties in one with DJ Rob Reum inside and DJ Robert Ansley outside. All kinds of fun as you go back and forth with warmer temps returning @ Ten Atlanta, 4 p.m. – midnight.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

Sex Kitten Sunday with Angelica D’Paige corralling the queens @ 10th & Piedmont, 8 p.m.
