The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Your same-ol’ week just became one of those awesome weekends. Let it all go and recharge with LGBT events like concerts, plays, parties or a weekend of bondage. It’s all here for the taking.

Friday, Aug. 8

Jay Brannan (top photo) croons you into the weekend with his dulcet tones. The sexy gay singer-songwriter returns to Atlanta behind opening act Richard Parsons @ Eddie’s Attic, 7 p.m. Oh what we wouldn’t do to him.

Southeast Black & Blue Weekend kicks off a weekend of BDSM demos, vendors and socials with the Hotlanta Rubber Meet & Greet with vodka gummis, bookblacking and leather vendors @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m. Before you head out, heads up.

“Fresh Folk.” The crowd is mixed, and the art is fresh! This time, four artists put the funk in folk in the gay-owned spaces @ Kai Lin Art, 7 p.m.

The Other Show serves up the most unique drag cabaret in town with its singularly creative cast and special guests who always blast your expectations, this week with Justice Tyana Taylor and Nicole Paige Brooks @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

“The Rocky Horror Show” closes its local, modern re-imagining. The stage show that prompted the movie that prompted a cult following returns to its theatrical roots @ Actor’s Express, 8 p.m. Through Saturday Aug. 9, including a midnight Saturday show.

Boys Room. Nobody does gay in the ATL quite like the hip East Atlanta queers @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Ladies Lounge with Raquel Lord gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Pump pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this round helmed by DJs Travis & Eric @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Men’s Night draws all the suburban gays to the yard for sexy OTP fun. It’s also customer appreciation night @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.

Got Leche? amps up the weekly gay Latin night featuring stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m., this week with the annual White Party with Ivy Queen.

 

Saturday, Aug. 9

Southeast Black & Blue Weekend (middle photo) thinks kink with BDSM demos, vendors, socials, and more @ Atlanta Eagle, all day. Warm up with 7 things you didn’t know about Atlanta’s big gay bondage fest.

Doria Roberts rocks a set at her annual hometown birthday show @ Variety Playhouse, 7 p.m. She’s tastes even better than chicken.

Fall Softball Beer Bust & Registration Party. Just when you thought gay Atlanta softball was over, the gay jocks are back in action. Warm up for an autumn full of games and beer busts with – what else? – a beer bust. Add Jell-O shots and ball players from both Hotlanta Softball and Southern Softpaw, and it’s party @ Frogs, 3 p.m.

Get Em Wet Luau celebrates summer with the gay, bi and trans men of color @ Evolution Project, 5 p.m.

Early Country & Late Night Dance offers line dancing and two stepping after the sun goes down, then DJ Mike Pope picks up the pace until close @ Heretic, 8 p.m. and 12 midnight.

Diva-Rama Whitney Houston Tribute with DJ Chris Cox. Hand onto your hats and lose your shirts, dancing queens. The legendary Thunderpuss DJ hits town with Atlanta divas paying homage to the greatest love of all: Whitney. It’s not right, but it’s OK @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get started early with Ruby’s Redd Light District, 9 p.m.

Lindsey Hinkle Live. The lesbian with the licks shows off her pipes and her guitar in this intimate show for her people. Stick around for Atlanta’s favorite lesbian dance party with DJ Chris Rapko @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Synergy is the Saturday night show to rock your world @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

Sinful Saturday includes the Divas Cabaret and all kinds of other bar night fun for our suburban gays outside the perimeter @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.

DJ Ana Paula All Nighter moves your booty all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m. She is this kind of awesome.

 

Sunday, Aug. 10

Atlanta Santa Speedo Run Beneficiary Beer Bust. The gang’s all here to warm you up for the cold December day when every gay with a body (bottom photo) strips down and runs through Midtown in a Christmas swimsuit. Until then, meet the 2014 beneficiary and hobnob with organizers, runners and bottomless beer @ Hudson Grille Midtown, 2 p.m.

Softball Beer-B-Q Luau Registration Party. Fall's gay combo SSL-HSL league gathers for the second day in a row to sign up potential players, rub elbows and drink. Get your gay jock on, this time with food @ Hideaway, 3 p.m.

Sunday Funday. It's two parties in one with DJ Rob Reum inside and DJ Roberty Ansley outside. All kinds of fun as you go back and forth @ Ten Atlanta, 4 p.m. – midnight.

Atlanta Freedom Bands hosts the first of three Summertime Funtime Concert Band Reading Sessions.” This is your “in” to keep up your skills, gay band geeks! Musicians at all levels welcome to come check out the band and read some fun and interesting music @ Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 6 p.m. 

Babes for Boobs puts food and drinks on Atlanta’s lesbian Sunday table to raise funds for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Women come together for DJ beats, raffles and much more @ Hobnob, 6 p.m.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes presents the troupe’s weekly show on its continuing mission to bring campy bawdy drag and donated tips to the HIV/AIDS fight in Atlanta @ Burkhart’s, 8 p.m.
