The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Even on a short workweek, the taste of LGBT-ATL downtime is no less sweet come Friday. Make plans now with these shows, parties, sports, and other gay events to maximize your weekend.

Friday, May 30
Boys of Summer Swimsuit Contest (top photo) says hello to the season with a bawdy, irreverent ogling of men in kooky, sexy, naughty swimwear. Just like everything else they do, nobody does it like the guys @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. It goes a little something like this. And this. And yes, this.

Decatur Women’s Softball fields teams of Atlanta’s lesbians who pitch, catch and run the bases @ Kelley C. Cofer Park, Tucker, 6:30 p.m.

“End of the Rainbow.” It’s 1968, and Judy Garland is trying to make her last effort at a comeback in this play helmed by gay director Freddie Ashley. Join the icon “in a London hotel room with her young new fiancé, pills and cocktail at her side” before one of the most important concerts of her life @ Actor’s Express, 8 p.m. Runs through June 15.

Dan Savage Hump Tour. The gay author, provocateur and pundit brings the essence of his Hump Fest for amateur-produced porn to the ATL. Multiple showings of the 90-minute, 20-film collection represent the best of the fest @ Plaza Theatre, multiple showtimes. Saturday too. Read our interview and preview. 

The Other Show: As Seen On TV offers the most unique drag cabaret in town with a singularly creative cast and special guests who always blast your expectations. She’s so unusual, this week honoring favorite television divas @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

Swank is the monthly women’s jam at the hotspot on the corner of Gay and Lesbian. Ladies fandango with VJ beats and tons of surprises @ 10th & Piedmont, 10 p.m.

Ladies Lounge gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, scores of MSR ladies and the TraxxGirls promoters @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Pump pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Femme Fatale with Destiny Brooks and Justice Tyana Taylor puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Sawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m. Hey, it’s also Beauty & The Beat Girls Night upstairs with bartender Belinda and DJ Liz Owen.

Men’s Night: Hardbody Contest draws all the suburban gays to the yard for sexy OTP fun. It’s also customer appreciation night @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.

Got Leche? weekly gay Latin night features stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

 

Saturday, May 31
Peachtree Hills Festival of the Arts (second photo) brings people together for original arts and crafts, food, music and another great event from the gay-led Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces. This time, get to know @ Peachtree Hills Park, between Buckhead and Ansley Park, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday too. These guys always do it up right.

Flag Football Playoffs pits the gay teams of National Flag Football League of Atlanta in the pre-final gay jock showdowns toward a championship @ Boulevard Crossing Park, 12 noon – 3:30 p.m.

For The Kid Beer Bust slings all the beer you can drink for $10, plus shots and surprises to benefit the gay-founded, gay-led purveyors of Toy Party and Backpack in the Park. Get you some gay on the patio @ Joe’s On Juniper, 12 noon.

Hotlanta Softball Wackers Beer Bust. The HSL team hosts while you down bottomless brew, shots, a 50-50 raffle, drunken gummy bears and more @ Mixx, 3 p.m.

“Chow Master” Viewing Party. You’ve eaten his food; now give him some love. Join the gang at the corner of Gay @ Lesbian streets to cheer on chef Javier as he competes for Best Fried Chicken on the Travel Channel show @ 10th & Piedmont, 3:30 p.m.

Early Country & Late Night Dance offers line dancing and two stepping after the sun goes down, then DJ Mike Pope picks up the pace until close @ Heretic, 8 p.m. and 12 midnight.

Gemini Party with DJ Rapko. The popular Q100 spinner plays “all the hits” just for Atlanta’s lesbian dance party @ My Sister’s Room, 10 p.m. Come early for That Time of the Month Queer Comedy Show, 8:30 p.m. Get ready. We know how hard these ladies go.

DJ Alex Acosta returns to the helm of gay Atlanta’s favorite dance party @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get started early with Ruby’s Redd Light District, 9 p.m.

DJ Gordon John’s Sports Gear Fetish Night invites your jocks, running shorts, jerseys, crew socks and other athletic wear. Southeast Black & Blue in the house, and this Irish stud in the booth @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m. Read our flirty interview.

Synergy with Shawnna Brooks is the Saturday night show to rock your world @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

Midnight Madness drags out the dinner hour into party time with Angelica D’Paige @ 10th & Piedmont, 11 p.m.

Sinful Saturday includes the Divas Cabaret and all kinds of other bar night fun for our suburban gays outside the perimeter @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.

DJ Gino Santos All Nighter moves your booty all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

 

Sunday, June 1
Hotlanta Softball League (bottom photo) continues the gay league’s spring-summer games for all the gay pitchers and catchers @ Metro Atlanta Softball Complex, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Extra Innings Beer Bust @ Hideaway, 4 p.m. Yes, even after all of this.

Dine Out For Pride fills you up and gets you going while a portion of your tab is donated to Atlanta Pride. It’s going to be packed @ Ria’s Bluebird, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes present the troupe’s weekly show on its continuing mission to bring campy bawdy drag and donated tips to the HIV/AIDS fight in Atlanta @ Burkhart’s, 8 p.m.
