The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

A short workweek doesn’t make the weekend any less sweet. LGBT Atlanta rolls out sports, shows, soirees and special guests to make sure your Friday through Sunday are extra gay.

Friday, Sept. 7
Decatur Women’s Softball Season Opener (top photo) kicks off its fall season with league games every Friday through October @ Kelly C. Cofer Park in Tucker, 6:30 p.m.

Alexis Mateo of “RuPaul’s Drag Race 3” (second photo) says “Bam! The Jig Is Up!” as the weekly Got Leche? gay Latin Night throws the Vestida Party for her appearance @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Read our interview.

Cotillion Night in Hollywood invites you to walk the red carpet at this pre-ball gala with Atlanta Cotillion benefiting AID Atlanta. Silent auction, Cotillion Ball ticket raffle, cocktails, more @ Miz Scarlet’s, 7 p.m.

Atlanta Bucks First Friday & DJ Mike Pope lets you mix, mingle and rub up against the men of Atlanta’s gay rugby team out during their monthly beer and wings bar night. Go Buck wild, 8 p.m., then DJ Mike Pope finishes you off @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Sausage Fest makes you want a hot dog real bad then serves them up with DJs Bear Dawg and Headmaster Ritual in the booth @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 8
Citadel Splash Atlanta Field Day Beer Blast (third photo) helps this team at the annual event raise bucks before the big day for Jerusalem House and Camp Twin Lakes @ MillTown Arms Tavern, 5 p.m. Bubbles Salon haircuts today only also benefit Field Day, all day.

ESPN College Game Day invites the women who love women who love football out for beer and the Big 10, SEC and PAC games on mulitple screens @ My Sister’s Room, 12 noon. The gay guys are watching, too @ Woofs, 12 noon.

Cupcake’s Cotillion Garden Party is the latest fundraising shindig for Atlanta Cotillion debutante Jose “Cupcake” Guillen in his quest to become queen of the 2012 ball. Entry buys your open-bar cocktails, and 100% of it goes to AID Atlanta @ 6 p.m.

Armorettes Backroom Burlesque (fourth photo) welcomes the cast of crazies and special guest Benita B. Brooks benefiting GO Atlanta as the show takes its monthly place in the early night lineup @ Heretic, 8 p.m.

Atlanta Sisters Night finds the Atlanta Sisters of Perpetual indulgence taking over the Boozy Cougar, the upstairs bar, with Jell-O shots and other surprises to support their do-gooding causes @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

DJ Roland Belmares (fifth photo) makes his triumphant return to Atlanta after wowing the capacity crowd at Joining Hearts with a one-night-only set @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Swagger Saturday hits the stage for a live show with drag kings including Raw Talent 5 winner Justin Trouble and emcee Jersey Moulin, plus dancing with DJ Liz Owen @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

DJs Travis & Eric hit the booth to shake your ass at Guest Appreciation Night & Construction Wrap Party for the first phase of new renovations @ Jungle, 10 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 9
Atlanta Talons Fall Softball Kickoff & T-Dance (sixth photo) kicks off Hotlanta Softball’s Fall Ball a week early with bottomless PBR and the team’s infamous Jell-O shots as a fundraiser for animal charity, @ Frogs, 3 p.m. Fall Ball games start next Sunday.

NFL Sunday brings pigskin action to the ladies with beer and food specials plus all the pro football TV you can handle @ My Sister’s Room, 12 noon. Gay guys gather for the gridiron for more of the same @ Woofs, 12 noon.

The Atlanta Dream brings their WNBA season home with some serious hoops against the Washington Mystics @ Philips Arena, 3 p.m.

Karma Train Beer Bust for Atlanta Field Day raises excitement and money toward the annual event with a beer bust, shots, raffle prizes and more @ The Fifth Ivory, 4 p.m.

DJ Vicki Powell’s Sunday Service (bottom photo) puts the beat into your Sunday with Sinful Sangria flowing and all the fun and irreverence you’ve come to expect on the patio @ Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room bar, 7 p.m.

New Faces All-Star Finale. The weeks-long elimination competition comes to a head as the finalists perform to see who wins the title and the crown and special guests take the stage in the culmination of headmistress Regina Simms’ latest master plan @ Friends On Ponce, 11:30 p.m.
