The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Gay Atlanta supersizes your options for LGBT events this week. Get your gay fun and fellowship through art, sports, fundraisers, awesome Out On Film festival selections, and of course bars and parties.

Friday, Oct. 4
‘Heroes + Villains: Lost + Found” debuts the latest installment of gay Atlanta’s favorite photographic artist Phillip Bonneau’s nationally heralded, locally adored and much-ballyhooed exhibit series. He re-imagines classic comic characters with a queer eye, including “Flash Dance” (top photo). This time, the show benefits Lost N Found Youth @ Suite Spot, 6 p.m.

Out On Film continues Atlanta’s annual celebration of LGBT cinema through Oct. 10 with a full day of Friday films including “Hot Guys with Guns” (second photo) 9:05 p.m. Its director in the audience is just one of the hottest Out On Film hunks. Even more on tap including “I’m a Porn Star” documentary, 11:20 p.m. @ Midtown Art Cinema.

“Choir Boy” continues its heralded run of this play about a teen coming to grips with his fabulosity while navigating prep school @ Alliance Theater, 8 p.m. Runs through Oct. 13.

Dinner & A Movie: “The Wedding Singer” kicks off Jungle’s Friday with dragster Jaye Lishe, a different screening each week, and great menu specials in the Jungle Room @ Jungle, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sit. Stay. It’s time for The Other Show cast and guests, 9:30 p.m.

Fashionado Friday: LABELatlanta Afterparty puts an extra stylish spin on its monthly niche event at the corner of Gay and Lesbian. Dress to impress with Fashionado, aka our pal Vincent Martinez, and select runway items from the big event @ 10th & Piedmont, 10 p.m.

Charlie’s Angels is the newest show at Midtown’s go-to bar. Join porn sexpert Charlie Harding and a cast including Shawnna, Chavon, Niesha, Lateasha and legendary Lena @ Blake’s, 11 p.m. It’s a mess – in the best possible way (third photo).

FUR drops you into gay Atlanta’s hot weekly man-on-man dance party, this week with DJ Mike Pope @ Heretic, 10 p.m. Get there early with the new weekly Bear Bust with bottomless brew, 7 p.m.

Got Leche? celebrates the weekend each and every Friday with Atlanta’s weekly gay Latin night @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

BanjeeGirl Friday: Twerk Contest gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party and all the ladies you can handle with the TraxxGirls promoters @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. They go hard all night.


Saturday, Oct. 5
Out On Film continues Atlanta’s annual LGBT film festival through Oct. 10 with a full day of films including “The Rugby Player” about gay 9/11 hero Mark Bingham, 1 p.m. with an afterparty at Mixx, “Breaking Through” by Atlanta lesbian filmmaker Cindy Abel on out politicians with a Q&A to follow with local subjects in the movie, 5 p.m., the documentary of a legend in “I Am Divine” (fourth photo, watch the trailer), 7:05 p.m., “Getting Go” with its two hot leads in the house, 9:10 p.m. and many more @ Landmark Mitown Art Cinema.

Southern Softpaw League pitches and catches with the gay fall softball jocks. Come for the guys, stay for … well stay for the guys too @ Southside Park, noon. Post-Games Beer Bust hosted this week by the Talons Blue team @ Hideaway, 4 p.m. Atlanta's gay softball jocks love their beer so much.

“The Tears on Her Face are from Laughter: Queer Stories of Survival” (sixth photo) with readings by lesbian contributors benefits Atlanta Pride and Charis Circle @ Charis Books & More, 5 p.m.

Martina Navratilova and Kate Clinton are among the guests rocking AARP’s 50+ national conference, which also includes LGBT plenaries and discussions @ Georgia World Congress Center, all weekend.

Protect Your Relationship Legally workshop gives you the tools and info you need to have legal rights with your partner in the years before Georgia has marriage equality. Georgia Benefits Counsel walks you through it and can execute your plan for free. Learn all about it @ Cabbagetown Community Center, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

For The Kid In All Of Us Beer Bust (sixth photo) pours you unlimited beer to benefit the gay-led group that brings you gay Atlanta’s summer Backpack in the Park and holiday Toy Party. Get with your gays @ Joe’s, 1 p.m. They tend to draw a cute crowd.

PFLAG Atlanta Big Day Out welcomes your blanket, food and fun to an outdoor celebration @ Glenlake Park Pavillion, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Fashion Block Party for AID Atlanta closes down Peachtree Street to through traffic to celebrate a high-style grand opening of a too-cute store in the 12th & Midtown area. AID Atlanta benefits from the food, fashion, drinks, music and more celebrating the official grand opening @ Republic of Couture, 3 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Hoptober Beer Bust for AIDS Walk. Your $10 donation buys bottomless brewski, a live DJ and raffles with your friends @ Frogs, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. 

Meet & Greet Mary Norwood. Fundraiser toward the campaign to return this gay-friendly political hopeful to city council. She gathers with her gays to eat, drink and be Mary @ Amsterdam, 5 p.m. Yes, she's back.

Bearracuda with DJ HiFi Sean (seventh photo) fuzzes up the ATL again with beef, brawn and burliness. This time, the hairy hunks welcome back this big bad London bloke to move the masses @ Heretic, 10 p.m. Check out photos of exactly how hot and sweaty it gets.

Flux Night 2013 brings out thousands of art lovers for projections, installations, parades and performances. It’s a huge night of free awesomeness on the streets and in the galleries @ Castleberry Hill, 7 p.m.

Raw Talent 6 kicks off the popular competition series for kings, queens and other acts in a regularly scheduled elimination search for the best. Of course it comes alongside the bump and grind of Atlanta’s rowdiest lesbian dance party @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. And we do mean rowdy.

DJ Grind (eighth photo) gives you music to rub up against that stranger by. Gay Atlanta’s Bestest Dance Floor welcomes to the booth the vocal house beats of this hot San Francisco mix master @ Jungle, 10 p.m. Come early for dinner, drinks and a great show with the girls of Ruby’s Redd Light District in the Jungle Room, 9:30 p.m.

Sinful Saturday, including the Divas Cabaret and a stripper pole contest for the OTP gays @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m. Apparently, OTP gays are happier than you.

Daring Divas is the Saturday night show, but you’ll want to go earlier for more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Extravaganza Show is the weekly fabulosity with blonde and beautiful Shavonna B. Brooks and cast @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

 

Sunday, Oct. 6
Victory Fund Atlanta Champagne Brunch honors local LGBT elected officials like Alex Wan and Joan Garner with a keynote by U.S. House Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (ninth photo). Eat it up to benefit the national group that helps gay people get elected @ InterContinental Buckhead, 12:30 p.m. Wan’s been busy.

Sunday Funday ShotDay for AID Atlanta doles out the lemon shooters to benefit the state’s largest HIV agency with raffle prizes and other goodies while they last @ Ten, 12 noon.

Family Pride Celebration dedicates a Sunday worship service specifically to LGBT acceptance during Atlanta’s Pride Month. With gay-inclusive families specifically in mind, an afterparty brings a rainbow bouncy house, fellowship and other treats with this gay-affirming congregation @ Druid Hills Presbyterian Church, 11 a.m.

Out On Film continues Atlanta’s annual celebration of LGBT cinema through Oct. 10 with a full day of Sunday films including “Before You Know It,” 12:45 p.m. “Melting Away,” 3:10 p.m. and “Birthday Cake” (10th photo), 6:45 p.m. Make plans for the rest of the week with Out On Film’s hottest hunks.

Update 10/4: Cancelled by organizers Rush Center Beer Bust raises a glass or several to help expand Atlanta’s LGBT resource center. Bottomless brew for $10 goes toward the home office of Georgia Equality, Atlanta Pride, Health Initiative and more @ Frogs, 3 p.m.

Harness lays down a “No Shirt, No Cover” party to shake up your Sunday. Strap in and strap up because it’s that kind of a night, this week with DJ Scott Anthony, in the new bckspce @ Jungle, 6 p.m. – midnight.

Bluebird Lucky 13 Anniversary celebrates an amazing year in local lesbian chef Ria Pell’s (bottom photo) legacy, including her best Food Network moments in that epic “Chopped” win. Live bands, food samples, DJs and more ring in the next era @ Ria’s Bluebird, 12 noon

Flashback Showgirls is the drag show that takes you back, all the way back to a new decade each week. Lady Shabazz leads the cast @ 10th & Piedmont, 8 p.m.

Armorettes: Glamp! The camp drag troupe re-envisions its weekly fundraising show adding the beauties of Burkhart’s to the mix. New showtime, revitalized cast, same insanity @ Burkhart’s, 9 p.m.
