The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

From iconic once-a-year events to one-night-only special guests and limited-time-offer shows, LGBT Atlanta rolls out the events for good times that say, “Get up, get out, and get busy.”

Friday, May 1

Suzanne Westenhoefer for Pride School Atlanta. The out lesbian comic (top photo) does her thing to benefit the project that will bring an LGBT-friendly school to area elementary kids. Silent auction and raffle too @ Virginia Highland Church, 7:30 p.m. Here's the scoop on the school.

“Die Mommie Die!” Charles Busch’s camp comedy play-turned-movie is back on stage, this time in the capable hands of locals including Topher Payne as an aging film star of the golden era @ OnStage Atlanta, 8 p.m. Runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. through May 23.

Snips N Clips. For the entire month of May, salons give a dollar of every haircut to Pride @ Shear Love, Vivid Hair and Bubbles, all day all month.

Guerilla Queer Bar. The Welcoming Committee continues its mission to invade straight bars guerilla-style. This month, serve them a tall glass of your fabulous LGBT-ness @ The Sound Table, 483 Edgewood Ave. SE, 9 p.m.

DWSL Softball. Get with the lesbians of Decatur Women’s Sports League teams for weekly games @ Kely Cofer Park, Tucker, 6 p.m. through May 15.

Antigone Rising and Lindsey Hinkle. The queer band hits town with the local gay favorite in tow for a night of live music @ Eddie’s Attic, 7 p.m.

“Norman, Is That You?” The Broadway smash that paved the way for gay-inclusive comedies like “Ellen” and “Will & Grace” gets the revival it so richly deserves. Step back in time to 1970s Gay New York @ Out of the Box Theatre, 8 p.m. Runs Thursdays to Sundays through May 2.

“Blues for an Alabama Sky.” This play by local queer ally Pearl Cleage includes gay characters in this look at Harlem in 1930 @ Alliance Theater, 8 p.m. Runs through May 10.

“Masculinity.” Multi-artist exhibit of adult explorations of manliness @ Low Museum, through May 10.

The Other Show presents the most unique drag cabaret in town with a cast and special guests to blow your mind @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

Boys Room. One two, you know what to do. Three, four come on through the door @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. 

Pump pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this week with DJ Stan Jackson benefiting AID Atlanta and one of the Men of David magazine, David Tillman @ Heretic, 8 p.m.

First Fridays House Music. DJ Ron Pullman puts a deep soulful and classic House backbeat on the monthly Onyx club night with guest DJ RayVibe @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar @ Lips Atlanta, 7:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.

Ladies Lounge gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Deadly Vixens drag show puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus DJ Mike Pope’s Second Level @ Blake’s, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Fame & Fortune Friday. WhassupNATL invites its huge guestlist of black gay men out for an upscale but not uptight night @ Frank Ski’s, 10 p.m.

Chaparral Night turns up the volume on its weekly gay Latin party with stage shows, dancing and this week, studs in suds partying to music by DJs Carlitos and Martin. Free entry customer appreciation night @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. They party hard.

 

Saturday, May 2

HRC Dinner (middle photo). The annual gala and silent auction gets tuxed up and gowned down to benefit the Human Rights Campaign @ Hyatt Regency Atlanta, 5 p.m.

NFFLA Flag Football pits the gay teams of National Flag Football League of Atlanta in their weekly gay jock showdown @ Boulevard Crossing Park, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. 

Atlanta Bucks Beer Bust. Who needs a match to have an afterparty? Not the burly gay jocks of the Bucks rugby squad. Join them for bottomless brews @ Cowtippers, 2 p.m.

Night 4 Day #Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled nighttime shenanigans, 9 p.m.

DJ Aron. The Israeli stud who is damn near as good for your ears as he is easy on the eyes. Bump up against his beats all night long during gay Atlanta’s best weekly dance party @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Yes, Aron is that sexy. Get there early for the Fantasy Girls show, 9 p.m.

Glitter Ball: Lace & Leather. The dance party where anything goes, especially if it’s shiny and sparkly, returns. Get down to the sounds of DJ Neon the Glowgobear as well as special guests Jaye Lish, Bitch Puddin’ and Sisters of Perpetural Indulgence @ Heretic, 9 p.m. Here’s how they roll.

Jocks & Gear Party. Sports fetishwear, and as little as possible of it with the Talons and DJ Scott Anthony. Free clothese check @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Girlbar. Live music and stage shows dot the landscape of lesbian Atlanta’s favorite Saturday night dance party @ My  Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The undisputed Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar @ Lips Atlanta, 7:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Or come in late for the Taboo Show, 12 midnight.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Genre, a cast of premiere queens and special guests. DJ and video beats plus more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

DJ Karlitos All Nighter moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.

 

Sunday, May 3

Change of Seasons Tea Dance (bottom photo). Join the annual party that starts the countdown to gay Atlanta’s biggest charity summer pool party. DJ duo Travis & Eric, raffles, drink specials and Gummi Bear shots await @ Jungle, 4 p.m.- 11 p.m. It’s always a blowout.

Hotlanta Softball League continues its spring-summer season for gay pitchers and catchers @ Metro Atlanta Softball Complex, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. You can also join this week’s Extra Innings Beer Bust with the Holograms team @ Taverna Plaka, 4 p.m.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 1:30 p.m. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 7:45 p.m.

K9s & Cocktails Big Deck Party. Pet adoption, music, giveaways and games benefit Angels Among Us Pet Rescuue and Leader Dogs for the Blind @ Henry’s, 3 p.m.

The Armorettes. Those local camp crazies throw down their weekly show for tips against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta @ Hideaway, 8 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet, her left-of-center queens, and DJ King Atlas rock their weekly drag show and dance party @ Burkhart’s, 9 p.m.
