Prison docs, cops, jail guards and teachers. Don't they know it's best not to dabble in the goods paraded before them? For former DeKalb teacher Casey Thomas, the answer is a resounding no.
The 37-year-old is accused of sexing up three male students, all 15 or 16, at Millers Preparatory Academy for Boys. Prosecutors say he used beer to get them drunk before having sex with them. The alleged incidents took place in 2009 and 2010, but Thomas' trial starts on Monday. He's remained in the DeKalb jail since his July 8, 2011 arrest on 13 charges, including aggravated sodomy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
During a court appearance Tuesday, Thomas shielded his face from TV cameras as he walked into the courtroom in an orange prison jump suit.
“These allegations outline an extremely serious and disturbing crime,” District Attorney Robert D. James said in a news release. “We take these allegations very seriously and will work diligently to ensure justice is served.”
The website for Millers Prep describes the school, founded in 1995, as a military academy that “provides young men in the metropolitan Atlanta area with an opportunity to develop leadership skills.”
So, no sexting from your patrol car. No groping in the prison exam room. Don't swap jail contraband for blowies. And never, ever show up in the driveway with lube and a sleeping bag.
