After a three-decade run and a legendary international reputation, gay Atlanta’s only all-male all-nude bar announced Monday that its doors will shutter permanently on Jan. 15.
With 30 years under its belt, Swinging Richards is no stranger to LGBTQ Atlanta. It was a gay celebrity stop, an Atlanta Pride underwear favorite, and even the subject of its own documentary film. One stripper sued the club in 2014, but several more got sudsy at car washes. Perhaps most infamously, SR dancers did the Pride parade as “firemen” and as “cowboys.”
Rumors of the final closure hit social media over Thanksgiving weekend after staff and other insiders leaked the closure. The bar confirmed the news in a Monday morning post.
After 30 years of being a staple in the Atlanta LGBTQ+ community, it is indeed true that we will be closing our doors January 15, 2022.
We want to thank the countless people who have come and have been entertained by our boys over the years. You all have meant the world to us for giving so much support over the last three decades.
Our boys will miss your friendships, your kindness, your participation and seeing your smiling and excited faces especially those that frequented us. We love our regulars. You all made us world renowned and there is no thank you that could ever show enough gratitude.
As we prepare to bring this landmark to an end, please friends past and present come by over the next few weekends and visit with us one last time. We would love to see you and we are quite sure our boys would as well…
