Spotlight shines on Atlanta’s pro sports teams

Atlanta’s pro sports teams are making news today:

The Hawks open in Boston tonight in the team’s first play-off series since 1999. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has a cute video quizzing current players, including rookie hottie Al Horford, on what they were doing in 1999. The paper also handicaps the personnel matchups for the series.

The Hawks-Celtics series puts forward Josh Smith (photo) in the spotlight. The AJC profiles the native Atlantan today and includes his favorite places about town.

The Atlanta Dream opens its first-ever training camp today.

Braves ace John Smoltz is just four strikeouts shy of reaching 3,000 for his distinguished career. Well, at least distinguished when he isn’t talking about gay marriage.

Former Braves Andruw Jones and Rafael Furcal are back in town this weekend, this time dressed in Dodger uniforms.

The Tour de Georgia opens tomorrow, though it doesn’t reach metro Atlanta until next weekend.

The Falcons are pondering their picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, including whether to snatch quarterback Matt Ryan in the first round or pick among five others.
