The gay newshounds at Southern Voice debuted a cute new graphic on Tuesday to show that they get the gay news out there quick.

We’re all for that. In fact, Project Q Atlanta launched last September with that very goal — bring news, events and happenings to our readers as quickly as possible and do so over the web and through social media outlets since that’s where people in larger numbers want their information delivered. It’s the shift that’s killing newspapers across the country.

But SoVo debuted their Breaking News icon on something that’s, well, not really breaking. Or news. The paper routinely offers news stories that other news organizations don’t, but they unveiled the new graphic with the “news” that DJ Samantha Ronson will spin June 27 at Primal in Atlanta. Since when did a T dance become “breaking news?”

The post went live at 11:54 a.m. Seven hours later, it’s still labeled “breaking news.” We’re all for a good T dance and events geared to lesbians. But SoVo blew its “breaking news” load a little prematurely on this one.

(Before you send us emails and leave comments calling us haters, know this: We’re big fans of SoVo and sister David Atlanta. Our founder worked there in the trenches with the editorial staff for eight years, though what’s left is much reduced from those days. We commend their work more often than we quibble with it and we hope they survive federal receivership and the shenanigans of their owner.)
