A dozen guys put their bashfulness aside, swapped their Hotlanta Softball League uniforms for drag and fought for the Miss HSL title on Saturday. It was exactly the hot mess of wigs and drama, and a few bare muscled chests, you want to see.
The event helps raise funds for HSL teams heading to the Gay Softball World Series, set for late September in Dallas. But the fun night of drag also had a serious side. It raised more than $1,000 for Lost N Found Youth, which cares for homeless LGBT youth in Atlanta.
A panel of judges sorted through it all and crowned Miss Raven from the Sharks, known out of drag as Jon Ravenelle, as Miss HSL. Judges included gay playwright Topher Payne, LGBT activist Laura Gentle, drag queen Mariah Paris Balenciaga and Kamaria Shauri, who is HRC Atlanta's outreach co-chair.
