The dashing duo behind Social Tuesdays is always scouting around town for that nightspot nonpareil — that place with no equal.

Sure, they sometimes go for the tried and true and find success there, too. But this week showed stepping outside the box often brings rewards.

Kurt Edwins and Chris Coleman, the promoters that created Social Tuesdays last September, parked their event this week at Drink Shop, the hotel bar at W Downtown. The place pitches itself as “a true hotel bar, as hotel bars were before ice machines, soda guns, canned juices and pre-made mixers.” And quite fitting with the atmosphere the W brand works hard to create, Drink Shop offers House Rules like these:

• Conduct requiring no apology is the accepted rule at all times.
• Do not bring anyone unless you would leave that person alone in your home.
• No name-dropping. No asking anyone if he or she knows who you are. No pointing or starring or acting like a wide-eyed fool.

In fact, that’s pretty solid guidance for any bar or night of cruising for guys. But we digress.

Drink Shop doesn’t offer the amenities of your everyday bar, such as ice machines, soda guns, canned juices and pre-made mixers. Fruit, they note with pride, is pressed for juices, ice is cut by hand from a large block and small bottles of soda are used for mixers. The concoctions are a refreshing twist on the typical cocktail, but it does seem to slow the service a bit.

But don’t mind us. We’re just a little bitter that we couldn’t use the helipad atop the 29-story building, which opened earlier this year.
