RuPaul Season 6 queens slay ‘Covergurlz’ album

The drag-lefecent girls of the upcoming “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season won’t compete for your hearts and daggers until February. So they’re dropping a RuPaul cover album, complete with gay Atlanta’s own Trinity K. Bonet serving super model.

Sadly for almost all of the queens, “The Covergurlz” compilation is way more mess than success. Tuesday’s manufactured quote from RuPaul to promote the teaser clips video (above) says it was fun to make anyway.

”Putting this album together has been a real master blaster!” quips Ru. “Turn it up, and let ‘em scandalize!”

Whatever that means. Clearly we’re excited about Bonet’s rising star on the show. And we still are – even though her man-voice shreds the Ru classic “Cover Girl” (19:32 in the video), and not in a good way. Good thing she serves such good face.

But Bonet’s epic fail is in good companyon the album. Gia Gunn on “Ladyboy” is actually worse than our local queen, and other than Vivacious on “I Bring the Beat” (skip to 4:30 to hear it), you can just smell the autotune stench on each track. Most of the contestants never said they could sing, so we can’t blame them. But whichever Ru handler thought this was a good idea in the first place needs the ax.

The better news is that the full release helps divert our attention until the show bows on Logo on Feb. 24. Of course, these teasers may eliminate the need to buy any part of “Covergurlz” before it actually drops on Jan. 28. You decide.
