Just as it’s being dethroned by one list of LGBT-friendly campuses, Houston’s Rice University puts shine back on its crown as another ranking puts it atop every other gay-welcoming school in all of Texas.
The props aren’t as prestigious as the standard-setting Princeton Review, which knocked Rice off a perch in its annual rundown this year after bestowing its huge national spotlight in 2014. It’s also not independently researched like CampusPride, which regularly gives UH and Rice kudos. But when ecollegefinder ranks the Most LGBT Friendly School in Each State, we’ll take the compliment for one of our perennially inclusive local campuses.
Texas
Rice University
Marching in the LGBT Texas Pride parade, and speaking out in support the US Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, Rice has always been loud and proud, showing that Texas can have pride too.
Not much there to sink your teeth into, but we are down with the effort to bring attention to the home team. It’s also kind of nice to get some good back-to-school news in a state that was just named home to more anti-gay schools than any other. Suck it, Texas A&M, Baylor and University of Dallas.
Keep it up, Rice. Along with UH, we can always look to you for inclusive policies, prestigious gay alums, and those uber-smart LGBT students.
