Rain dampens softball opening

Foul weather threw the Hotlanta Softball League a curve ball on Saturday, soaking fields and leading to the cancellation of Opening Day just hours before the scheduled first pitch on Sunday at 9 a.m.

League officials said late Saturday that storms moving though metro Atlanta left the fields at the Metro Atlanta Softball Complex in southwest Fulton County unplayable.

The league, which plays a 10-game schedule spread over 13 weeks, will instead open its season on April 6.
