Q kicks off summer with Memorial Day Weekend in queer Atlanta

Temps are on the rise, and that trademark Southern humidity is quickly following suit. Cue summertime in the LGBTQ-AT. This week's Q magazine is here for it and here for you.

Even if you’re playing catchup on summer’s unofficial arrival, Memorial Day Weekend should envelope all stragglers in those midyear vibes. Local queer clubs and organizations are pulling out the stops for LGBTQ Atlanta's weekend events, and our holigay roundup includes them, as well as details on the most popular road trips for the three-day weekend and beyond.

Of course, the first time you may really think “summer” is when you’re tempted to wear shorts, or when you notice all the gorgeous gams on folks who are already doing so. This year’s go-to saturated hues can be found at Atlanta’s thrift stores, and our cover-story photo essay helps you attain that steeped-in-color look without those deep-in-pocket prices.

Last week, 10 Queer Things gave a topical glimpse at tough issues we face this election year. This week, we take a lighter, tongue-in-cheek look at “The Real LGBTQ Agenda.” Turns out, the daily queer quest to take over America looks a lot like everyone else’s lives, and that to-do list may be the best argument yet for equality.

Elsewhere in Q this week, our cameras catch people getting a jump on the season, and our calendar bursts with opportunities to join the fray. Vince Shifflett talks dating and aging, and The Q advises a few one-sided love affairs.
