Pro sports news you missed while at Pride

If you spent the weekend celebrating the Atlanta Pride Festival instead of paying attention to the world of pro sports, here’s what you missed:

Jeff Francoeur gets demoted to the minor leagues on Thursday for a stint to last up to three weeks, whines about it in an article published Sunday, hits 4-for-5 later in the day and gets recalled to the injury-plagued Atlanta Braves on Monday. Huh?

It’s more like this: Frenchy rebuffs off-season offers from the Braves to sign a multi-year contract, reports to Spring Training puffy, stinks up the field so far this season and gets demoted. The move turns into a public relations nightmare and the Braves recall him when given the first opportunity at saving face (injuries in a 17-inning battle on Sunday with Houston). What a mess for the usually button-downed franchise now mired in fourth place.

At least Frenchy looked cute in his uniform during his 72-hours with the Mississippi Braves (photo).

In the midst of all of this, Chipper Jones gets picked for his first All-Star game since 2001 and Brian McCann returns for the third consecutive year. And yeah, he’s only been in the Bigs for three seasons.

In keeping with this baseball theme, A-Rod’s friendship with Madonna was too much for his wife. Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce earlier today, the day after the manwhore slugger hit his 536th homer and tied Mickey Mantle at 13 on the list of Home Run Kings. Guess the size of his bat really doesn’t make a difference, at least in this instance.

And let’s not forget this: The Atlanta Dream won their first game.
