That’s the conventional wisdom on the Atlanta Pride parade, which took more than two hours to stretch along its route with more than 200 entries. The Oct. 9 event set a new record for entries and probably duration, plodding along Peachtree and 10th streets with a mixture of non-profits, corporations, drag queens, digging dykes, jocks, motorcycles, retail outlets, gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses and elected officials. Even some gay cops. They stepped off at 1 p.m. after hours of putting on the final touches at the staging area. imageSome danced their way along the route – strippers and drag queens tend to do that – while others set a quicker pace. Hey Rep. John Lewis, we see you and your jogging alongside your ride. There were the glorious wings and quiet passion of Angel Action Atlanta (bottom photo) and the symbolic importance of the giant Pride flag carried by volunteers with the Atlanta Pride Committee (top photo). All of it was enjoyed by the festive crowd that lined the parade route. For their efforts, six businesses and non-profit organizations were crowned parade winners: imageBusiness 1st place: No Mas Hacienda 2nd place: Advantage Graphics & Signs 3rd place: La Chapparel Non-profit 1st place: Atlanta Sisters 2nd place: The Armorettes 3rd place: CHRIS Kids image
