Voters in 30 states notwithstanding, President Obama evolved into supporting gay marriage on Wednesday during a hastily-arranged interview with ABC News.

The announcement, coming just three days after Vice President Joe Biden backed same-sex marriage in an interview, made big headlines. ABC interrupted its regular programming to make the announcement and air a portion of its interview with Obama.

“I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told Robin Roberts.

Apparently, Clay Aiken helped.

Obama’s opponent in the presidential campaign, Mitt Romney, took the occasion to reaffirm his opposition and affirm his place in the dustbin of history.
