imagePool parties bloom. Tea dances re-emerge from their cocoons. But it wouldn’t be spring in the gay South without Spring In the South XXII, Atlanta’s annual three-day Bondage, Discipline, Sado-Masochism education convention.

So if your interest was piqued when Mr. Atlanta Eagle 2010 stitched his arms together to win the title during Atlanta Leather Pride earlier this month, Atlanta SM Solidarity, also known as A.S.S., has the perfect weekend in store for you April 23-25.

If you’re new to A.S.S., the group began in 1987 “to educate and to provide accurate, objective, and up-to-date information regarding safe and sane S/M sexual practices among the gay male community,” though many of their outreach programs, including Spring In the South XXII, are open to people of all genders and sexualities interested in learning more “in a supportive atmosphere, free from pressure.”

“Our outreach programs are presented to those specific audiences which are receptive to the philosophy of A.S.S.,” the group’s website states.

Year-round activities include discussions and forums on the various topics and techniques of gay male S/M sexuality, demonstrations of such techniques, and private play parties. A.S.S. membership applications are open to gay men in Atlanta, and associate memberships are open to gay men outside Atlanta.

imageThis weekend’s three-day Spring In the South, which kicks off at 10 p.m. Friday at the Eagle and continues at Club 1763 and other locations Saturday and Sunday, is in its 22nd year. Six vendors and 20 courses by a dozen instructors from across the country will be on hand in four general workshop tracks: Dungeon Arts, Psychological, Sensation Play and Electives.

Courses offered read like a who’s who and what’s what of BDSM: Basic Flogging, Flogging Florentine, Bondage Without Ropes, Iterrogation Basic, Interrogation Advanced, Caning, Needle Play, Whipping for Beginners, Keeping Safe, Erotic Hypnosis, Mind Control, Mummification, Hot Wax Mummification, Information Extraction (water techniques), Massage for Pleasure, Massage for Pain, Fire Play, Urethral Play, Cock and Ball Torture, Crusing for SM Partners and Leather Care.

The complete three-day schedule also includes continental breakfasts, cocktail parties, networking and social gatherings.

So you think you’re ready? There’s only room for 125 Spring In the South attendees, so fill out your registration application today to secure your place. Be sure to review the Dungeon Rules, including the House Safe Word, before you arrive.

Spring In The South is hosted by Atlanta S/M Solidarity on April 23 -25. Click the names for more details about the group and/or the event.
