Before you’ve even caught a whiff of turkey, the folks behind Toy Party got into the spirit early with a patron party to kick off a holiday season of LGBT events full of good cheer.
For the Kid in All of Us welcomed patrons and sponsors of its annual behemoth holiday season bash that collects toys for Georgia’s underprivileged youth. The crowd gathered at gay-owned gallery Kai Lin Art on Thursday to mingle and start getting excited about the Toy Party & Silent Auction on Dec. 5 at AmericasMart3.
Guests on Thursday were the first to hear plans for Toy Party 2010’s Official Afterparty: Playground, which takes the event’s Dec. 5 fundraising and the festivities into the night at Opera Nightclub with DJ David Knapp.
Last year’s Toy Party (view photos) drew about 4,000 guests and collected some 5,000 toys in addition to raising $40,000 toward the cause at its silent auction.
Such a big event doesn’t take place without a year-round effort by organizers and loyal patrons. For the Kid—which also hosts the annual summer Backpack in the Park—actually started its 2010 push as early as March with a Donor Kickoff Event.
The fundraising continued in April with a fashion show at Saks, and has been beneficiary of several dine-out events and other fundraisers throughout the year.
Before the big night, look for the Toy Party Kickoff on Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 24, with guest DJ Tracy Young at Jungle.
But Toy Party is not nearly all that LGBT Atlanta has planned for big holiday events this year. It’s joined on the season’s calendar by the new Atlanta Holiday Ball on Dec. 3 at Druid Hills Country Club.
The Holiday Ball is a dressy, upscale event by Good Friends for Good Causes hosted by Atlanta Women’s Business Network. The event features a dance floor with DJ Vicki Powell, prize giveaways, and even offers guests a lounge for a change of scene with Penelope Williams on the piano.
Holiday Ball ticket sales are growing toward an expected 400 guests to fete the season in style. Secure your tickets for the Atlanta Holiday Ball now.
