There’s nothing like a good pageant to draw the interest of gay men.
No, not that one, silly. Of course, Miss Indiana Katie Stam was crowned Miss America on Saturday. But we’re talking about “Pageant,” the documentary from directors Ron Davis and Stewart Halpern.
The film provides a behind-the-scenes look at 52 male contestants who want to be crowned the 34th Miss Gay America. It’s showing tonight (and tonight only) as part of the first monthly screening for Out on Film, the Atlanta gay film festival working to make a big splash this year. Afterwards, Bubba D. Licious and other celebrity judges will host a mini-pageant at the theater. Five contestants will be chosen from the audience, with one being crowned Miss Out on Film 2009.
Look for additional screenings from Out on Film in the coming months, as well as an Out on Film Weekend May 28-31 (also at the Plaza) and the major festival in October.
(“Pageant” screens at 7:30 p.m. at Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. Tickets are $10. View the trailer.)
