Last call at Outwrite’s iconic Midtown location isn’t set in stone yet. But the LGBT bookstore is preparing for its “Last Tango” later this month that will bring together several authors for their final appearance at the store.

“Last Tango at Piedmont & Tenth” was announced on Wednesday as a final showcase for what the store does best – highlighting talented LGBT and gay-friendly authors and bringing them face-to-face with fans. The evening, set for Jan. 24, already includes Hollis Gillespie, Don Perryman, Karen Head, Collin Kelley, Mose Hardin and Daniel Helminiak. Other guests are in the works, Outwrite owner Philip Rafshoon (photo) said.

A closing date hasn’t been set for Outwrite’s current location at 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue, but it’s becoming more apparent that last month’s 18th Anniversary Party will be its last in the store.

The store, struggling to steady its financial footing, announced in November that it would move to find cheaper rent. Rafshoon said Wednesday that he’s scouting a few locations but would not hint at possible new spots.

“We expect to be moving sometime in mid-February and I don’t know the exact place yet,” he said. “We have several things in mind and we are just waiting to see what happens with them. Seeing as we don’t have one exact date, we wanted to have one big author bash here.”

Will “Last Tango at Piedmont & Tenth” become one of our favorite moments at Outwrite? We’ll have to wait and see.
