Self-indulgent, narcissistic, shallow. What’s not to like about HBO’s gay drama “Looking”? Some answers are found hilariously in a new Funny Or Die video that spoofs the new show.
Amid the success of Lena Dunham’s “Girls,” you already know that HBO is diving into another “friends in the big city” series that follows three gay men in San Francisco. Now there’s a snarky homage (video above) by comic Drew Droege. He’s kind of a big gay deal. While his characters may be “looking” for a guy, it's clearly in the wrong places, perhaps in the wrong mindset, and maybe “Not Looking” really at all.
It’s worth a watch and a few chuckles – even if you like the show, which is apparently up for sharp debate. It's either an epic fail or watered down but revelatory. Maybe it's just plain boring. Maybe it could just never live up to the hype. But it’s not the new “Queer As Folk.” Love it or hate it, where could that opening scene handjob have taken place?
