Social group finds Steel in Midtown

imageSocial Tuesdays went condo this week.

The networking and social group returned to a Midtown condo tower for its weekly installment, bringing with it a diverse crowd ready for some eats and drinks. Steel Restaurant & Lounge provided the setting, the contemporary eatery tucked inside Plaza Midtown on West Peachtree.

Richie Arpino’s new calendar boys

imageGay Atlanta stylist and photographer Richie Arpino unveiled his 2009 Swim Suit Calendar during an event Thursday, offering up 12 months of swimsuit-clad clad hunks.

The launch party for the calendar, Arpino's fifth rendition, took place at Bazzaar on Peachtree Street as a benefit for Breast Friends, a cancer support network. Several of the models featured in the calendar were on hand, including the ones for January, February, March, July and September.

Popular cafe hosts social group

imageSocial Tuesdays went "tried and true" this week by stopping in at the popular Gilbert's Cafe in Midtown.

The intimate space at the Mediterranean cafe provided an ideal backdrop for the seventh week of the gay and lesbian networking and social evening. Gilbert's has been a Midtown mainstay since 2000. The group moves to a different hot spot each Tuesdays beginning at 7 p.m.

Finding a little Spain in Midtown

imageDespite the blast of winter that hit early this week, a crowd of gay folks filled the intimate space of Cuerno in Midtown on Tuesday for the latest stop in a new weekly social event.

Social Tuesdays, in its fifth week, tasted a little of Spain with the restaurant and nightspot Cuerno. And in a new twist, the crowd also had the option of moving to "after Social" later in the evening at Beleza, a sister spot next door.

Social Tuesdays tries Midtown Italian

imageSocial Tuesdays tasted a little Italian this week.

The upscale gay mixer moved to Amore Restaurant on West Peachtree Street in Midtown on Tuesday, bringing with it a diverse crowd that enjoyed the space and took full advantage of an expansive wine list and fully stocked bar. In its fourth week, Social Tuesdays brings together a gay and lesbian crowd at a different hot spot for socializing among drinks and even dinner if you bring your appetite.

Social Tuesdays launched on Sept. 30 at the Geisha House in Atlantic Station. On Oct. 7, it hit Tongue & Groove in Lindbergh City Center and on Oct. 14, moved to Maxim Prime at the Glenn Hotel. View photo albums from those events here,here and here.

The event continues Oct. 28, though a location hasn't yet been announced.

Jungle reemerges for Saturday nights

imageThere's nothing like a sour economy to spur innovation.

Brad Williams, the owner of the Wild Mustang off Cheshire Bridge Road, is partnering with promoter Chris Coleman (photo) of C2 Productions for a new hybrid Saturday evening. Coleman is also half of the duo behind the popular Social Tuesdays.

Social Tuesdays draws swanky crowd

imageThe boys of Social Tuesdays hit Tongue & Groove in Lindbergh City Center this week for their second event.

The new nightlife event pairs a large group of gay men (and a few lesbians) with an upscale dining spot around town. On Sept. 30, the creation of Chris Coleman and Kurt Edwards premiered at Geisha House in Atlantic Station. On Tuesday, they hit Tongue & Groove. And on Oct. 14, the party moves to Maxim Prime at The Glenn Hotel in Downtown. The events are a little networking, more socializing and much fun. You can spend time with a drink at the bar or take in dinner with friends.

WETbar ends run this weekend

imageAnother Atlanta gay bar closes its doors this weekend.

WETbar dries out this weekend with a two-night celebration calling an end to the Spring Street venue that opened with a flourish three years ago. To make matters even more interesting, there's now a celebrity buzz with events at the club on Friday.

DJ Samantha Ronson, Lindsay Lohan's newly confirmed girlfriend, spins tonight at WETbar and gay boys everywhere are atwitter that Lohan might make an appearance. WETbar officials have to love that -- the place needs all the buzz it can generate.

Another bar bites the dust

Speculation floating around the blogosphere lately has been confirmed: WETbar will close by month's end.
