The daylong Pure Heat Community Festival attracted thousands of people to Piedmont Park on Sunday to celebrate Black Gay Pride.
Pure Heat honorees this year included “Pose” actress Angelica Ross, singer Tweet, AARP’s Hillary Thomas, state Rep. Park Cannon and style guru Japan. Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, talked with the crowd about voting rights as part of her Pure Heat debut.
The eighth annual festival was one of many events held throughout the weekend. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms kicked off the weekend with a Black Gay Pride reception at City Hall.
