A Midtown homeowner has stepped forward with video footage of two men just before they were robbed and beaten after leaving Blake’s earlier this month.
The video footage, taken by two of the 16 surveillance cameras surrounding Brad Edmonds’ home on 9th Street, shows the two men just before they were attacked, as well as several men who may have played a role in the early-morning attack on Jan. 8. The men — Drew Childs and Trenton Theiler — had just left a going away party for Childs with friends at Blake’s.
Two men approached the pair as they walked along 9th Street, striking Theiler in the head and hitting Childs several times in the face. Theiler was able to run to 10th Street, but the assailants took Childs’ wallet. Both men were treated for injuries at Grady Hospital.
The video footage shows Childs and Theiler walking along 9th Street. They walk out of view but then several men are seen running along the street in their direction. A car that circles the block several times is also seen on the video.
“I’ve never seen crime this close,” Brad Edmonds tells WSB. “Actually, they were being followed it looked like. And there were more than two. It appears to be six or more.”
Edmonds says he hopes Atlanta police can use the video to make arrests in the case. The incident is scheduled to be discussed on Monday during the monthly meeting of the LGBT advisory board for Atlanta police. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. in City Council Committee Meeting Room 2 at City Hall.
