The Decatur Women’s Sports League is offering lesbian athletes two ways to shake the winter doldrums. Registration is being held this week for new bowling and basketball leagues, part of an expanding roster of offerings from Anne Barr, a lesbian and longtime softball player who launched a new softball league last March. The league quickly became popular, drawing more than 200 mostly lesbian players for its inaugural season.

Today, registration is being held for a bowling league that starts play Jan. 9 and will run 10 weeks. Sign up at Suburban Lanes in Decatur beginning at 6:30 p.m. Barr wants the league to include about 75 people on four-person teams. Cost is $17 a week.

On Thursday, sign up for the new basketball league begins at 7 p.m. at the Decatur High School gym. Barr hopes to have six teams with about 10 players each for the 10-week season. Cost for the season is $55.
