New Kai Lin show puts us in a state ‘Grace’

imageKai Lin Art, the uber-hip, gay-owned Midtown art space, does it again. After a talk-of-the-town opening and show for “Popstars & Cokeheads,” the gallery opens “GRACE | Lush. Ethereal. Color.” on Friday.

With a knack for drawing in the gay hotties and hipsters to his openings, entrepreneur du jour Yu-Kai Lin (top photo) says this, his gallery’s eighth exhibit, really sets a mood.

“The show is really ethereal, featuring artists that are decorative in nature, contemporary in style,” he says. “It’s very elegant and graceful.”

The works by Mary Farmer, Anne Elser, Sun Hong and Drew Watts create a “cohesive show in terms of palette and feel” that are perfect for springtime, the gallery owner says.

“Lots of pastels, abstracts, florals and landscapes that very fitting for the season,” he says. “It’s a seasonal show that’s so colorful, yet muted—beautifully exquisite.”

image“GRACE” is also completely different than anything Kai Lin has ever shown before, including not only the style of the work itself, but in its focus on female artists and their point of view.

Watts, who is gay, is the lone male artist in the group show. He submitted work (including “Abstract,” photo) to the gallery late last year, and they fit in nicely here, Yu-Kai says.

“Drew’s works are gorgeous,” he says. “They’re a perfect complement to the other artists selected for ‘GRACE.’”

Friday’s opening night party also includes an after-party at Aurum Lounge.

“GRACE | Lush. Ethereal. Color” opens Friday and runs through May 1 at Kai Lin Art. For more information, shoot Yu-Kai an {encode=”[email protected]” title=”e-mail”}.
