With a bye to the championships, the Broncos were well rested when the title game came calling on Saturday.

The advantage helped, as the team won the league championship to close out the National Flag Football League of Atlanta’s season. The Broncos downed the Pirates 26-6. The Pirates defeated the Wildcats 26-7 earlier in the day for their spot in the title game.

The championship game capped a season for the league that started in late March and suffered through being bounced from park to park over the city’s new drought restrictions and then experiencing a handful of rainouts of their Saturday game days. Oh, the irony.

The league now sets its sights on Gay Superbowl VIII. The NFFLA will assemble a team to take part in the national tournament, set for early October in Salt Lake City. In 2007, the team placed ninth after winning the B bracket championship, two spots lower than a year earlier. In 2005, the NFFLA team made a run at the title, losing in the final game.
