Atlanta’s oldest surviving lesbian bar celebrated their 15th birthday on Saturday as patrons who remember when and newbies alike turned out to toast the owners, enjoy a show and dance their asses off.
My Sisters Room‘s popular emcee Chase Daniels made sure the regular Saturday night show was anniversary-worthy, presenting performances by drag kings and princes Slater Reign, Neo Valentine, Sunshine, Tiff-nay, Niko Giovani, LoHo and Devin Liquor.
What’s more? The bar gave out it’s Proprietor’s Club Honoree Awards. The whole event honored My Sisters Room owner Susan Musselwhite and Patryce Yeiser. They deserve it. Including a temporary closing and a move from their original Decatur location to East Atlanta village, the bar has survived flaming controversy and a deck collapse on top of their fair share of individual lesbian dramas that have played out there for the last 15 years.
The festive spirit was put to a beat by DJ E, who spun Top 40 and Hip Hop so the ladies could shake what Mother Nature gave ‘em, and to reward loyal customers, the bar passed around free Jager Shorties and offered drink specials all night.
That the bar was hopping is nothing new. This year alone, it has seen multiple Bedlam parties, the crowning of Mr. Raw Talent, Melissa Carter’s radio farewell, the MondoHomo Cabaret, and even a Yee-Haw Roundup, to name but a few. Follow the links to see pics from those events as well.
Up next at My Sisters Room is a fundraiser for activist Peewee Hymen on Aug. 28.
