My Facebook friends say plenty about Obama

imagePresident Barack Obama took to the airwaves again last night, this time for his first address to Congress. It wasn’t billed as a State of the Union, but with the economy in the toilet, it was a critical moment in his young presidency.

Like CNN, which struck an arrangement with Facebook to “pulse” its friends for their take to the speech as it happened, I turned to Facebook to gauge the reaction of my friends. The quips were immediate as Obama opened his speech a little after 9 p.m., with status updates continuing through the evening with Gov. Bobby Jindal’s response for the GOP.

Some of what my friends were saying:

On Obama and the speech:

Continues to be amazed at the tour de force that is President Obama.

Proud of our President.

Pleased that Pres. Obama has decided to follow every suggestion I sent when his transition team requested my guidance.

Obama Two Thumbs Up – great job. Jindal response was typical with his response to refuse the money for his state and the good folks who really need

Believes that serious times call for serious people.

Having witnessed another eloquent speech, is off to bed.

Loves correct grammar, complete speeches, thoughtful paragraphs, sense of history, facts about the present, inspiration of Kennedy, drama of Reagan…

Thinking it was a pretty great speech, serious but humorous at times and always smart. Republicans don’t know what to do.

Loves Pres. Obama what a speech, tears came to her eyes with the young student from S. Caroline what a speech!

Ok, i’ll confront without fear, Mr. Prez.

Encouraged by the strategies and points raised Obama’s speech, but is concerned about it’s content. And Nancy Palosi must just simply go away.

Terrified but also inspired.

Happy, here comes the presidential shout outs! 🙂 here to all my peeps!!

Does like a prez with cool humor and sly wit.

Hails the Father in Chief.

Is glad he can watch a Presidential address and not want to vomit.

Listening to a great leader “seeking a cure for cancer in our time” Obama Feb 2009.

It so nice to hear a speech about what we are capable of rather than who we should be afraid of.

Has never seen the whole “Chamber of Congress” stand up so much when a President has spoken……what does this mean? Hope, perhaps?

Hoping “those days are over!”

Awesome line… Not just quitting on yourself, quitting on your country. Takin’ it to the street…

Wondering where Joe 6-Pack is watching this address.

On Jindal:

Bobby Jindal couldn’t have been a worse pick to follow President Obama….

Thinking mayyyybe another old white guy would’ve been a better move for the GOP tonight. Wow. Just wow.

Wondering if he is the only one that thinks Jindal speech was read as really crappy bedtime story last night.

Did Bobby Jindal say that healthcare was was best left to patients and their doctors? Where have we heard that before? Honestly, that party is a mess.

Thinks Jindal’s one note will help him sleep.

Not so impressed with the rebuttal.

Loves jindal’s candy cane tie,tho.

We are not children, please speak a bit above the 8th grade level Gov. Jindal.

On Michele Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton:

Hillary Rodham Clinton better work that fuscia outfit. yes mam. watching PRESIDENT Obama speak :).

Michelle Obama looked good!

Nancy Pelosi looks a little frightening in hi-def.

OMG, is Nancy Pelosi wearing a snuggie?

There are no classier women then the ones we have in Washington: Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Michelle Obama. Makes me proud to be a woman in America.

Nancy Pelosi looks like Joan Rivers’ sister…

Thinks Nancy Pelosi resembled a badly coiffured Jill-in-the-box.

On the spin after the speech:

ANDERSON shut up.

Listening to the talking heads on CNN. Definitely less inspiring than the president.
