MLK breakfast draws spirited crowd

imageAbout 100 people filled the basement of Positive Impact last month for the Atlanta Bayard Rustin-Audre Lorde Breakfast, an event that marks the contributions of black gay men and lesbians.

The annual breakfast takes place on the annual commemoration of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The event this year, held Jan. 19, took place after a vocal protest earlier that morning over the appearance of Rev. Rick Warren at the MLK services at Ebenezer Baptist Church. (View photos from the protest.)

imageThe breakfast included a panel discussion that featured Craig Washington, an organizer of the breakfast and protest, blogger Darian Aaron, transgender activist Cheryl Courtney-Evans, Emory graduate student Letitia Campbell and Morehouse College student Michael Brewer. The discussion was moderated by Nikki Young.
