Meet Atlanta’s ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race 3’ queens

imageOnce again, Atlanta has two queens of its own to cheer for in Logo’s upcoming “RuPaul’s Drag Race 3.” The local contenders joining the cast for the January launch are edgy show queen Phoenix and ballroom champ Mariah.

Phoenix (photo, left) probably needs less introduction to you bar flies. Her edge gets her noticed, and she’s looking to improve upon Atlanta’s showings in past seasons of the show. You know her from weekly stints like Drag on the Edge on Mondays and The Shawnna Factor on Thursdays at Blakes, among several other regular appearances. She was also one of the top queens on hand Saturday to bid adieu to Alexandria Martin.

But who’s Mariah (right)? You didn’t see her at the bar, honey. And make no mistake: You won’t. Mariah is “legendary and earned it” says the queen who intends to bring ballroom drag to the status it deserves among female impersonators. She considers transexuals and real women–not drag queens–her competition. Face? Check. Body? Double-D Check. Attitude? Bitch… um, we mean … check.

It was about this time last year that we told you Nicole Paige Brooks and Sonique would represent Atlanta on last season’s show. Check our episode-by-episode coverage of “Drag Race 2” to revisit their contributions to the season that ultimately produced Tyra Sanchez as America’s Next Drag Superstar. We’ll be recapping the new season as well.

Atlanta has its eye on you, ladies! Our very best to your success.

But enough about us. We have the introductory videos from both our local girls. Let them introduce themselves and tell you in their own words what makes them so damn special.
