Meet UGA’s ultimate fighting machine

imageCale Yarbrough’s training and hours in the gym are paying off.

The University of Georgia student is gaining notoriety in the Mixed Martial Arts world thanks to an appearance on Spike TV’s “Ultimate Fighter.” He’s also getting noticed by students on campus — the male ones.

While being a professional fighter probably earns him his fair share of female admirers too, the sport’s overwhelming popularity with the male demographic is apparent.

“A lot of guys. A lot of drunk guys,” he said. “A bunch of guys want to buy me beers and stuff, it’s pretty weird.”

“He gets hit on by tons of dudes,” said Todd Duffee, his roommate.

imageIt’s easy to see why. The lean yet buff Yarbrough is a gym rat, working long hours at Hardcore Gym in Athens between classes. His roomie is there, too.

Though sculpting their bodies to excel in competition, it is for a sport that comes with some pretty strong homoerotic undercurrents. (In fact, one MMA site includes a “Homoerotic MMA photo of the week.”)

One gay MMA fan had this to say about the sport:

Let’s recap: the fighter in the top position mounts the fighter in the bottom position. He pounds him. The bottom rolls over, exposing his back. The top applies a rear naked maneuver. The bottom submits. Ding ding ding! They don’t make pornos this gay.

Hat tip to Outsports for introducing us to Yarbrough.
