The bromance between Matt Ryan and the Atlanta press corps has begun.
Reporters are already fawning over Ryan, the hunky quarterback picked to lead the Atlanta Falcons. Not that anything is wrong with that. But look what happened to the last Falcons QB that we – the media, fans and the city – fell in love with. He’s serving time in a federal pen.
Nonetheless, Ryan has arrived and seemed to enjoy his unveiling over the weekend during a Falcons minicamp. The newest chapter in the media fawning came today with a piece in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
“I think I’m just pretty normal, like everybody else,” said Matt Ryan after his second Falcons minicamp practice Saturday.
“I enjoy going out getting some good food. I love the beach — my family has a house on the Jersey Shore, I love spending the summers there just kind of hanging out. Beach-goer, golfer, TV watcher, just like everybody else. Normal — kind of boring, really.”
Ryan – nicknamed Matty Ice in high school – is apparently as normal as Michael Vick was problematic. Hopefully, the ice won’t melt under the glare and pressure that comes with life in the NFL.
