Mary Edith Pitts turned 20 on Sunday and in drag years, that’s quite a haul. The former Armorette and current mistress of ceremonies at Burkharts marked her anniversary with a celebration and, of course, fundraiser.
The anniversary event on Sunday included a hunk auction, classic Mary Edith Pitts — yes, that toilet shtick made a return performance — and scores of other performers, including Ashley Kruiz, Savannah Leigh, Alicia Kelly, Regina Ryan, Angelica D’Paige, Tina Devore, Brent Star, Destiny Brooks and Shavonna B. Brooks.
And in typical Mary Edith Pitts fashion, the evening also served as a fundraiser and brought in $4,850 for two of her favorite beneficiaries — Jerusalem House and the Grady Infectious Disease Program.
The birthday bash also attracted the likes of Alex Wan, the development director for Jerusalem House. You might also know him as the Atlanta City Council member for District 6 and that body’s only openly gay member.
While Mary Edith Pitts’ alter ago, Richard Cherry, is a tad bit older than the drag persona, he didn’t quite specify his age during an interview last week with Project Q Atlanta. When asked, Cherry quipped, “No longer a twink, much more of a twinkle.”
